Ranger X1 Review: The Fat-Tire eBike That Doesn't Flinch at Gravel
Marcus Webb · August 18, 2026
The Ranger X1 is the most capable all-rounder in Tope's lineup — it just costs 6 lb of extra heft to get there.
Pros
- +80-mile range held up within 8% of spec on mixed terrain
- +Hydraulic brakes bite hard even loaded down with panniers
- +Fat tires shrug off potholes and gravel without a suspension fork
Cons
- −72 lb is a lot to carry up a walk-up apartment
- −Throttle response in Turbo mode is aggressive for new riders
We put 140 miles on the Ranger X1 over three weeks, split between paved commuting and a gravel rail-trail. The 750W rear hub motor pulls hard from a stop and never felt underpowered, even fully loaded with a rider over 200 lb.
Range claims are where most eBikes disappoint. The Ranger X1 didn't: in eco assist on flat pavement we logged 74 miles before the battery gave out, close enough to the advertised 80 to trust the number.
The tradeoff is weight. At 72 lb this is not a bike you casually carry up stairs, and the standover height runs tall — riders under 5'4" should test before buying.
